In varying climates, a system can incorporate a reverse valve, switching between heating during the winter months and cooling during the summer months. By switching the flow of coolant, the refrigeration cycle for the heat pump is switched from cooling to heating, or vice versa. This allows the plant to be heated and cooled with a single unit by the same means, with the same hardware.
